Last chance to register to vote in May’s elections
You can’t help but have noticed that there is an election coming up. The Local and General Elections take place on 7 May 2015.
That is a few weeks away so it doesn’t matter if you haven’t decided who you want to vote for yet.
However, if you want to have your say on 7 May, you need to register to vote by Monday 20 April 2015.
To vote at the UK general election on Thursday 7 May, you must register to vote by Monday 20 April. There will also be local district elections in every council ward and parish and town council elections in some areas of Kirklees.
Here in Kirklees want to encourage as many people as possible to sign up before the 20 April deadline. Applications can take time to verify so please register as soon as possible to make sure you can vote.
If you want to influence decision-making that may affect your day-to-day life, you need to be registered to vote. If you’re not registered you can’t vote, you won’t be able to have your say on issues that affect you, you could be refused a loan, a mobile phone contract or even be turned down for a mortgage or bank account. Not being registered can also affect your credit rating.
How do I register to vote?
It’s quick and easy (taking around 5 minutes) – you just need to give your name, address, national insurance number and date of birth.
