Enjoy some art with your coffee at Cafe Ollo in Huddersfield.

You are invited to a free exhibition preview at Cafe Ollo in the Media Centre,  Huddersfield from 7.30pm on Friday 5 June.

In addition to some beautiful photographic images there will also be music from bands including the ‘Hoot Guitar Orchestra’ and ‘Band of Jays’.

Who are Pathways?

Pathways, which is jointly run by South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Kirklees Council, provides a range of creative opportunities for people with mental health problems in order to help them recover.

One of the opportunities on offer was a 20 week photography course, which aimed to encourage the group to come together and learn from one another’s interests and skills.

Leah Brown, group facilitator at Pathways said: “The photography group encourages members to see life differently and capture shots that they find unique or interesting. We’ve seen some really great photographs being taken by people attending the sessions.

“The group gives people the chance to try something new whilst meeting new people. Seeing their work displayed at a special exhibition which is open to the public, their family and friends is a great confidence boost and achievement.”

Can’t make the launch?

Don’t worry! Following the exhibition, the work will be on show at the café for three months.

You will also be able to buy the photographs for £15 each with money raised going to the group members and also to benefit future photography groups at Pathways.

Cllr Viv Kendrick, Cabinet member for Health, Wellbeing and Communities said: “Services like Pathways provide valuable opportunities for people with mental health problems to express themselves in a creative way, meet new people and help aid their recovery. I would like to congratulate the people who took part in this group – I am sure that their photographs will be enjoyed by many people visiting the café.”

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of mental health, learning disability and community services to local people in Barnsley, Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.
