Look out for your bin day letter

BinsFrom Monday 7 September 2015, bin collections across Kirklees will change. The change will help improve the service to residents and save almost £500,000 a year.

You will get a letter through your door at some point between 24 – 28 August, with details of your new bin day and which colour bin to put out.

The letter will also include a calendar of collection dates until the end of 2016, including collections over the Christmas 2015 period, as well as a list of what goes in each bin to help you with recycling.

You should have received a letter by Friday 28 August.

From Monday 7 September, your bins will be collected from Monday to Thursday and the crews will work longer hours over those days – so the time bins are collected will also change.

The teams will be collecting from 7am so please make sure your bin is out early.

Please take your bins back onto your property as soon as possible after they have been emptied.

Cllr Cathy Scott, Cabinet Member for Housing and the Relief of Poverty, said that the changes need to be made to achieve twin goals of improving service overall and meeting financial targets.

She added: “We have looked at best practice elsewhere and worked with industry bodies like WRAP and APSE to develop the new delivery model.

“In the past we have resisted changing bin days for residents. Over time new estates and properties are added to rounds that unbalance them. We are now at a point where we need to deliver the most efficient service.”

From now until Friday 5 September, your waste and recycling bins will be collected on the usual dates.
