To mark black history month, throughout October Bagshaw Museum in Batley will be running the step into Africa exhibition. The exhibition includes a selection of items from their African collections.

You will have the chance to step back in time and view shields from the mighty Zulu warriors, Hausa leatherwork and rhinoceros hides.

There is also an opportunity for you to check out some beautiful examples of shields and swords from the Sudan.

This is a great opportunity to experience African culture by viewing the beautiful assortment of artefacts.

Step into Africa

Visit the exhibition, and you’ll also see examples of African art and costumes,  as well as macabre souvenirs like the necklace taken from a dead Dervish soldier – who were renowned for their resistance against Britain and Italy.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday until Friday 11am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 12 noon to 5pm.
