Have you got the force? Sci-Fest Yorkshire 2015 brings to you a brand new science fiction festival held from 23rd October to 1st November 2015, across various venues in our area. The festival has something to offer everyone – from your little furry ewoks looking for half-term entertainment to the expert H.G. Wells fan after an enjoyable evening of discussion.
As well as author talks and book discussions, we have a host of exciting activities. For the ‘hands on’ fan we have sci-fi themed workshops, for the film enthusiast we have various screenings of sci-fi classics, and for the Cosplayers amongst us we have a costume trail around the People’s Show of Sci-Fi.
Whatever your age, whatever your fandom, come along and get involved!
1. Sci-fest launch – 23rd October 2015

Kicking off the launch we are pleased to announce that Huddersfield-based band Stems will be headlining on 23rd October, 5.30pm to 7.30pm, and will be performing to the accompaniment of the 1902 silent movie ‘Trip to the moon’.
Stems describe themselves as ‘Art rock embellished with strings – epic cinematic compositions full of sweeping elegant darkness and hypnotic delicate intensity’, with an eclectic mix of influences from Stravinsky to Velvet Underground. The band have undertaken several European tours and have performed at events such as Huddersfield’s Festival of Light.
The event costs £1 entry (refunded with any bar sales) and with optional fancy dress encouraged, this promises to be a spectacular festival launch.
