Celebrating Carers Rights Day – Friday 20 November
We are set to celebrate national Carers Rights Day on Friday 20 November 2015, an annual event organised by Carers UK. The day brings organisations across the UK together to help carers understand their rights, and find out how to get the help and support they are entitled to.
There will be special events and activities in the run up to Carers Rights Day, as there have been in previous years. We will be hosting an event in honour of the day on Friday 20 November, at Carers Count in Huddersfield, and we will be spending time in hospitals in the days leading up to Carers Rights Day.
Making Space is also hosting an event on Tuesday 17 November, 10am to 11.30am at the Head of Steam pub, St George Square, Huddersfield. This is an opportunity for you to meet with Brearleys Solicitors who will be available on the day to discuss any concerns you may have.
Cllr Viv Kendrick, Kirklees Council, our cabinet member for adult social care said:
Every year, more than two million people take on a new caring role. For those people it can be hard to work out what services and entitlements are available to them. Even those who have been caring for years sometimes aren’t aware of all their rights. Carers Rights Day is about getting carers the information and advice they need to access practical support, and find out how technology can help reduce pressure on them. The day also raises awareness of the needs of carers. Having the right information at the right time can make a huge difference when you are looking after someone.”
