Rural District Committee to visit Innovation Centres
Our Rural District Committee’s Economic Growth and Regeneration portfolio group will be visiting Globe Mill Innovation Centre in Slaithwaite, and the University’s 3M Buckley Innovation Centre on Thursday 12 November. They will be using the trip to find out about the role of these centres in stimulating our local businesses and economy.
The role of the portfolio group is to add value to the Kirklees Economic Strategy in our rural area, and to look at ways of building local capacity. The group is particularly interested in the role small and micro businesses play in our local economy and how they can be supported to develop.
Cllr Edgar Holroyd-Doveton, chair of our Rural District Committee said:
The devolution developments of Kirklees Council has given the opportunity for more local based initiatives. In the rural area we are particularly concerned to develop a sound economic basis for small businesses to develop and prosper.”
David Brescia of the Hartley Investment Trust said:
The first phase of the redeveloped Globe Mills site is anticipated to open in autumn 2016, with lettable space for technology start-ups in the innovation centre, and for retailers, artisan food providers and professional services on the other floors.
