Shop a little different this Christmas
Our museums and galleries are helping to solve everybody’s annual gift buying dilemma – what do you buy for the person that has everything?
On Sunday 29 November, Sunday 6 December and Sunday 13 December 2015 between 11am and 4pm Oakwell Hall and Country Park will be holding Christmas Craft fairs. You will be able to buy everything from ceramics, prints and textiles to handmade toiletries, candles and local produce from small independent traders. The fairs will take place in the atmospheric old Barn.
Yuletide shopping gift-wrapped
It will also be an opportunity for you to pop into the Oakwell shop, which has been turned into a Christmas grotto selling Fair Trade and shabby chic decorations, homewares, artisan arts and crafts, books, Yorkshire foods and toys. In the run-up to Christmas, the shop is open 11am-4pm every day apart from Monday.
Oakwell shop will also be holding a late night Christmas shopping event on Thursday, 10 December, 4.30pm-6.30pm, when visitors will be able to pick up some bargains, enjoy complimentary drinks and nibbles, food tasting and get free entry to historic Oakwell Hall where there will be costumed staff and Christmas crafts.
If you have a history buff in your life why not visit one of our other museums – Tolson Museum in Huddersfield, Red House Museum, Gomersal, Bagshaw Museum in Batley and Dewsbury Museum – they all stock toys and giftware based on museum displays, including ancient Egypt, transport, gemstones and the Brontës.
Huddersfield Art Gallery, on Princess Alexandra Walk, will be holding three Christmas selling shows. The art gallery is open Monday-Friday 10am-5pm and Saturday 10am-4pm, closed Sundays.
The first show is Michelle Keegan’s ‘For Prints’ Sake’ exhibition. The show offers the opportunity to give the gift of art by buying one her award-winning etchings. Visitors to the ‘Drawn In: Winter Selling Show’ will be able to buy beautiful art and crafts inspired by drawing.
Whilst Gallery 6, the year round sales gallery is full of stunning arts and crafts by local makers that will make ideal Christmas gifts.
