If you visit one of our libraries you can now try out some special games on your smartphones and tablets. The new games will be available by downloading the ‘Library Treasures’ App from the app store. Once the app is downloaded you’ll be able to unlock the games at the library.

The App uses Augmented Reality (AR) to scan coin posters located in the library. There are three game packs to unlock; Animals – designed for younger children ages 3-7, Sports – designed for older children, and Retro – for children and big kids alike!

There are also special seasonal games to reward you for coming into the Library – the first seasonal game, “Snowball Splat” will be available for you to play from the start of December right through the festive season.

Compete with your family and friends

There are leader boards, so you can check out how well you are doing compared to your family, friends, or anyone else in our local area and you’ll even be able to see where you rank as the ultimate treasure hunter across the country. By using the “check-in” function at your library gamers can be rewarded with treasure hunting titles from Buccaneer, all the way up to Captain.

Kirklees Library Treasures is free on Apple or Android. Each time you scan the coin poster you get three lives, so whilst you can play the games anywhere, when you run out of coins you need to go back to the library to get more.

Cllr Graham Turner, our cabinet member for Resources said:

We are really excited to be the first council in Yorkshire to launch this award winning app. The app is one of many ways that we are embracing new technology to encourage people, especially young people, to become regular visitors at their local Library. Whilst users may start out by coming in to play on their smartphone or table, I hope that they will also begin to pick up books, develop a love of reading and benefit from wider learning and social opportunities that libraries provide.”

  • Hi,

I have been into my local library 5 times to download Library treasures. When I point my phone at the posters with coins nothing happens and staff cannot help me. Does the connection need wi fi to make it work? Any advice would be helpful.
