Welcome to late night shopping in Huddersfield

Christmas street

Independent retailers and local venues are joining with us this Christmas to put on late night shopping evenings in Huddersfield. Starting on 3 December and running each Thursday until Christmas, our Welcome to Huddersfield promotion aims to showcase the unique shops and spaces in the town centre.

Many of the independent businesses are opening late for the very first time and they have come together to put on offers, samples and tasters to shoppers on these evenings. It’s a great opportunity for you to shop differently and support our local business people.

Simon Frewin from Coffee Kabin said

We think this is a great initiative from Kirklees Council and we’re excited to be part of it. We think Huddersfield is a great town with lots to offer and we’re looking forward to the late night opening and the run up to Christmas.”

Karen Thomas, owner of Hidden De-Lights, an alternative clothing and gift shop that has recently moved to Byram Arcade in Huddersfield from a neighbouring town said

I am very pleased to be taking part this year in the Welcome to Huddersfield Christmas, and will be offering a special 10% discount off all purchases over £10 on the late night Thursdays and Sundays in December when you mention Welcome to Huddersfield.”

If you are coming to Huddersfield to shop on these Thursdays you will also be able to take of advantage of free parking in our car parks from 2pm.

Cllr Peter McBride said

We have been talking to our independent shops and venues and they felt that free parking from 4pm was too late in the day for people to want to start a visit. This earlier start to the free parking will give people the opportunity to come into the town centre from 2pm so they can shop, have a coffee, enjoy a meal and spend time with friends and family enjoying the Christmas shopping experience. The town centre is changing and developing and I would encourage local residents to take time to visit and explore the arcades, markets and shopping centres across the town centre.”

Of course it’s not just the independent businesses who will be open, our great high street favourites will also be open to give a full shopping experience with Kingsgate and other High Street shops opening until 9pm on Thursdays. Queensgate Market will be open until 8pm.

  • we will definately be coming to Huddersfield to give them our support for late night shopping and also our money , as Halifax seems to be doing nothing to bring shoppers into there town .
