Visit your local town hall for an afternoon concert
Gordon Stewart at Huddersfield Town Hall
Join local Organist, Gordon Stewart on 8 February from 1pm at Huddersfield Town Hall. Gordon will be playing music by Yorkshire based composers Andrew Carter and Alan Spedding in his next Town Hall lunchtime concert. Talking about his music choices for this concert Gordon said:
It has become a feature of the series to include music by Northern composers; Andrew Carter has been a town hall favourite since I gave the first performance of his Organ Concerto here some years ago. His beautiful ‘Cantilena’ was written in memory of Alan Spedding, who was organist of Beverley Minster for over 40 years. Just before his untimely death two years ago, Alan Spedding had completed the set of variations I am playing in this concert. Both pieces are ideally suited to the Town Hall’s famous Father Willis organ. Also included in the concert are Bach’s famous Fantasia and Fugue in G minor and Percy Whitlock’s colourful Plymouth Suite.”
Paul Chamberlain concert at Dewsbury Town Hall
Paul Chamberlain (Accordion) will also return to Dewsbury Town Hall on 10 February from 12.30pm. His last appearance in Dewsbury was one of the highlights of the season and many of you who have previously attended asked if we could have him back. He returns with a programme including virtuoso music from Russia, Argentina and France. Paul is recognised as one of the finest players in this country and his concerts have taken him to Russia, Finland and the USA.
