Another Successful National Voter Registration Drive
We have once again supported a national campaign to increase the number of people registered to vote. National Voter Registration Drive (NVRD) took place across the UK from 1 – 5 February and aimed to break last year’s record of signing up new young voters.
Our next local election and Police and Crime Commissioner elections will be held on 5 May 2016 and we want to encourage as many local people as possible to register to vote before then.
There are many benefits to being on the electoral register, in addition to being able to vote and have your say on local issues. Not being registered can affect your credit rating and you could be refused a loan, a mobile phone contract or even be turned down for a mortgage or bank account.
Our outreach team spent the week during NVRD working with various partners across our area to offer help and advice for people wanting to sign up to the register.
Activities took place at libraries, schools, colleges and at the University of Huddersfield. Our team have also been sharing messages on social media.
