Welcome to Huddersfield on Sundays

Welcome to Huddersfield

Welcome to Huddersfield

Huddersfield town centre businesses are backing a campaign to encourage more people to shop in Huddersfield on Sundays. Launching on Sunday 13 March ‘Welcome to Huddersfield on Sundays’ will run on the second Sunday every month, and encourages many independent town centre shops to open and join with Queensgate market, high street shops and Kingsgate to give shoppers even more reason to visit the town.

The ‘Welcome to Huddersfield on Sundays’ events will also see the ever popular Alternative Market – our youth market for stallholders aged from 13 years old and over, taking place on New Street close to Primark from 11am-4pm.

Upmarket returns

In addition, the monthly Upmarket Sunday event which already takes place once a month at the Brook Street Market will be open 10am-3pm with around 50 stalls selling local food and crafts. The open market also houses the Upmarket Bazaar, with around 20 stalls offered to local car-booters to sell off unwanted goods. We are supporting the town centre businesses by offering free parking all day on these Sundays in the Market Hall multi-storey car park.

Cllr Peter McBride, our cabinet member for regeneration said

The town centre is changing all the time and we have seen a number of new independent businesses opening in the last year. We do have more and more businesses starting to open on Sundays and I am pleased to see so many of them working together and backing this campaign for Huddersfield. By offering free parking on these dates we hope people will come into the Market Hall car park, visiting Queensgate and the Piazza shops, enjoying the youth market and arcades on New Street and the great independent shops around the Packhorse Centre as well as going to the Open Market for the Upmarket event and of course popping into Kingsgate.”

The first Sunday opening will coincide with the St Patricks Day parade and celebrations in the town centre so shoppers will have plenty to keep them entertained in Huddersfield that day, definitely something for everyone.
