There’s quite a bit going on this weekend (11-12 June 2016) here is our guide to a few events you might want to check out.

Heritage Walk at Red House

Celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charlotte Brontë’s birthday with a guided walk around Gomersal, followed by celebratory tea and cake, on Saturday, 11 June.

The three and a half mile walk will start at 1.30pm at Red House Museum, Oxford Road, Gomersal, which was once the home of Charlotte’s close friend Mary Taylor. Participants will discover how this exceptional woman inspired Charlotte in her life and literature.

The walk will take in field paths, slopes and stiles.

Refreshments will be served on the return to Red House with the event, part of Brontë 200, finishing around 4.30pm.

Organised by Helen’s Heritage Walks and the Friends of Red House Museum, this event costs £8 for adults and £6 for children. There is a £1 discount for Friends of Red House.

Queen’s June birthday Picnic

The Friends of Tolson Museum in Huddersfield are inviting local families to join them on Sunday, 12 June, to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday with a picnic in the park and brass band music in the garden.

Bring a picnic to Ravensknowle Park, Wakefield Road, from 12noon. There will be games and donkey rides to entertain youngsters. From 2pm, the Kirklees Junior Brass Band will play a range of popular tunes in the Memorial Garden behind the museum.

Return of Oakwell Artisan Emporium

The ‘Oakwell Artisan Emporium’ returns on Sunday 12 June 2016.

Following last year’s success,  Oakwell Hall’s unique shopping experience will return with some of the finest local artisan made crafts, gifts and produce.

There will be a range of stalls selling everything from handmade jewellery, paintings and prints, to preserves, cards, knitwear, floral gifts, and Italian food

The Emporium is held in the Visitor Centre and is open from 11.30am to 4pm and admission is free.

There will also be half price admission into the historic 17th Century Oakwell Hall to visitors.

Classic Car Rally at Oakwell Hall

Car buffs are in for a treat at Oakwell Hall, Birstall, on Sunday 12 June. Dozens of classic cars of all makes and models will be lined up on the lawn in front of the historic house.

Visitors will be able to get up close to the vehicles and speak to the owners between 11am and 4pm.

The car rally is organised by the Yorkshire Rover Club and is free to attend.
