Nordic walkers raise money for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice
Nordic walkers at Greenhead Park are using their weekly health walk sessions to raise money for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.
When Kirklees Council stopped charging £1 per session to hire the nordic walking poles back in January 2016, the group decided to start donating the weekly fee to charity.
Volunteer Sheila Scarr from Huddersfield said:
“Our walks are a great way to get out and meet new people and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Greenhead Park, and if we can help others whilst exercising it’s an added bonus. Since January we’ve raised £290 and are donating money monthly”.
Gill Logan from Kirklees Council Sports and Activity team said: “We’re keen to welcome new walkers, It’s free, open to all and we loan the Nordic Poles for free. We also help people to learn the technique of walking with the poles in a short session before the main walk”.
