There’s an event this afternoon (Weds 22 June) in Batley market square to remember Labour MP Jo Cox. Starting at 4pm, people will gather to hear a number of speeches and remember Jo, on what would have been her birthday.

The event is scheduled to begin at the same time as similar events worldwide, including Trafalgar Square in London.

If you are planning on attending this event, please read our practical information below.

Road closures

Market Place, Market Square and Cambridge Street will be closed from 11am Weds 22 June. They will re-open once it is safe to do so after the event (the event is expected to end around 5pm).

Depending on crowds, we might need to close Commercial Street as the event ends, to help everyone leave safely.

We recommending parking at Wards Hill car park, Wellington Street, which is free.
