Free Heritage tours of Dewsbury
As part of Heritage Open Day 2016 there will be free tours of Dewsbury town centre (no booking necessary) and Dewsbury Minster Tower.
Would you like the chance to take a sneak peek behind the scenes of some of Dewsbury’s most iconic buildings?
Take a trip into the town on Saturday 10 September.
Dewsbury town centre tour
The Dewsbury Town Centre Tour will take place at 11am and 2.30pm.
The town centre tour will start at Dewsbury Town Hall which was built in 1889.
It will then move on to Pioneer House which was opened as the co-operative building in 1880 by the Dewsbury Industrial Pioneers society.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to tour the inside of Pioneer House but the tour will offer history of the building from its co-operative origins through to the current ownership by the council.
Dewsbury Minster tour
The Minster tour includes the chance to admire the 1000 year old stonework, the opportunity to climb the stone spiral staircase, and visit the Ringing Chamber.
If you are feeling adventurous you can then climb the short ladder up to the clock room, and see the bells being rung and maybe even have a go. The Minster Heritage Centre will also be open for a short time after each tour.
Access on all the tours is limited to 10 people due to the number of steps, with the tours not being suitable for those with walking difficulties, push chairs or for children under the age of 5.
The Minster Tower Tours will take place at 11am and 4pm.
Places on the Minister Tour can be by contacting Derek C Johnstone on 0791 221 0244 or emailing email@example.com
