Mikron Theatre in the garden
Kirklees’ very-own travelling arts company, Mikron Theatre, finds time in its busy 2016 schedule for an outdoor performance in the Heritage Memorial Garden at Tolson Museum, Huddersfield, on Saturday, 24 September.
Mikron, famous for travelling all over the country by canal, river and road, is enjoying its 45th year of touring. In its current season, the company is performing at 130 venues.
Mikron Theatre will be performing ‘Canary Girls’ in the garden behind Tolson Museum, in Ravensknowle Park, Wakefield Road.
The play is set just after the outbreak of war in 1914, it is about two sisters who swap their lives as maids for work in a shell-making factory.
It seems like a new start with more money, exciting work and union activity but the sisters soon realise their dreams are pulling them in opposite directions. Ultimately each sister must decide which takes more courage – following your dreams or giving them up for the ones you love.
Funny, heartfelt and tender, Canary Girls is a tale of two sisters well and truly at war.
