£300 investment for young people with business ideas


Our Alternative Market is looking for young entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas to a panel of experts for the chance to win up to £300 investment plus mentoring and opportunities to trade. This competition is open to anyone aged 13 to 25 who’s got an idea for a successful business.

Interested individuals or groups need to send their initial ideas to the council by Friday 30 September 2016. Once we’ve looked at all the ideas invite the best ones to be presented at a ‘Dragons Den Style’ pitch to local business people.

Business panellists will include  local entrepreneurs Stephen Bond, Scarlette Homeshaw, and Adriana Tavares-Green as well as representatives from Kirklees Council, Chamber of Commerce and the University of Huddersfield.

Successful people will get access to funding and lots of support, it’s a great first step to starting a new business. You can out a bit more about it on our website.

How to apply

Email us and we’ll send you the application form to fill in. You must send the form back by Friday 30 September to be considered. You can also message @AlternativeHudd on Facebook to find out more and  get yourself an application form.

When are the pitches?

The panels will be taking place on the following dates:

  • Huddersfield: Sat  8 October, 11am – 3pm.
  • Holmfirth: Thurs 13 October, 4pm-8pm.
  • Batley: Sat 22 October, 11am-3pm.
  • Dewsbury: Tues 25 October, 4pm-8pm.

We’ve spaces for around 30 businesses so there’s plenty of opportunity.
