Garden Design Competition for Harrogate Autumn Flower Show 2017
We are looking for aspiring designers to come up with a garden design for the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show in September 2017.
The theme is ‘Mills to Moors’ so the design should reflect the diversity of Kirklees, whether that is through history, landscape or culture.
The garden design should also celebrate the staff, volunteers and apprentices who work together to look after our local parks and greenspaces.
Entries should reflect how local green spaces might look in the future.
The garden you design should be low maintenance, reduce some of the effects of climate change, and provide a community space.
We would also like the design to include recycled or reused materials where possible.
There are 4 entry categories: primary school, secondary school, college & university, volunteer and open.
A winner from each category will be selected by a judging panel. Elements of all the winning designs will be included in the final garden design.
The design will be showcased at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show in September 2017.
All our winners will receive 2 tickets for the show.
Ruth Dodds, Volunteer Coordinator said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about gardening and design to see their vision come to life. It’s going to be a really exciting way to celebrate the great work done by volunteers in Parks and Greenspaces and hopefully encourage more people to get involved with their local parks and greenspaces.”
Judges will select the four best designs and will consider:
• how well the garden interprets the theme
• how interesting and creative the design is
• the effective use of plants
• how well the design has considered sustainability issues
• how realistic the design is within a small budget.
