Christmas Lights Switch on dates across Kirklees

Huddersfield’s Christmas Lights Switch On – 19 November
The festive season officially begins in Huddersfield very soon with the Christmas Lights Switch On, on Saturday 19 November 2016.
Taking place on the Piazza in Huddersfield Town Centre from 4.15pm, the event starts with music to get people into the festive mood.
This year the Christmas lights will be switched on by Emmerdale’s ‘Ross Barton’, actor Michael Parr.
Mylo & Rosie from Pulse 1 Breakfast will be live on stage throughout the event, entertaining the crowds with games, music, singers and performers.
Special guests include the Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Jim Dodds, with Huddersfield’s Town Crier Vic Watson bringing an extra special festive atmosphere to the event. Also bringing fun will be Huddersfield Town’s mascots Terry and Tilly the Terriers.
Victoria Firth, Director of the Lawrence Batley Theatre (LBT), said:
“Christmas is always a wonderful time of year and this year the LBT is really getting in the festive spirit by producing our first ever pantomime, Cinderella. The Huddersfield Light Switch On signifies the start of the festive season and we’re pleased to once again play a key part in the event.”
Cllr Peter McBride, Cabinet Member for Economy, Skills, Transportation & Planning for Kirklees Council said:
“For many of us the Christmas Light Switch On signals the start of the festive season and the countdown to Christmas. We want to build on the success of last year’s event and draw more people than ever into the town centre. We’re delighted to be working once again with Kirklees College and the Lawrence Batley Theatre. We have an excellent line up of special guests and entertainers this year, with something for everyone. The Christmas Lights Switch On offers the ideal opportunity for communities and families to come together and celebrate. Come along, join in the fun, and enjoy the atmosphere and entertainment.”
