Old Huddersfield sports centre site up for sale
The site of the old Huddersfield sports centre has been put up for sale, with the Council aiming to get the best deal for the district.
The site has been cleared and prepared for sale, and will now be marketed for development.
Cabinet members agreed to move forward with the plans, and have released artist impressions of the type of development that could go on the site.
Cabinet Member for Investment Cllr Peter McBride said: “We gained the land as part of our agreement with Tesco once they pulled out of their plan to build a super market, but we have to sell it on the open market and get the best value we can for it. “But it is not just the money, it is getting the best kind of investment in the interests of Kirklees.”
A report by consultants Gillespie’s indicates the best use would be either a combination of offices and research and development facilities; apartments and housing with extra care facilities; or a mix of office, research and residential.
Cllr Graham Turner said: “This is a really important gateway site and it is important we make the best of this.”
