Secondary school places announced this week
If your child is starting secondary school this September you’ll find out which one they’ve got into this Wednesday (1 March 2017).
To make sure you know how and when to expect the news we’ve answered your top 5 questions about National Offer Day in Kirklees
If you have more questions please read our detailed information about secondary places.
1. How and when will I find out?
We’ll email you on Wednesday 1 March to tell you which school you’ve been offered a place at. If you can’t wait for the email you can log into the Kirklees Parent Portal from 00:30 on Wednesday morning to find out. Make sure you’ve got your username and password ready to login with; you can reset it if you’ve forgotten.
You’ll also get a confirmation letter in the post; it’ll be with you a few days after the email is sent. We’re sorry but we can’t tell you over the phone which school you’ve been offered.
2. Will my child have got a place at our first preference of school?
You’ll automatically get your first choice of school if there are fewer children than there are places. But if a school is oversubscribed then the admission criteria are used.
If your child didn’t qualify for a place at any of your preferred school(s), the school allocated is your catchment school or, if this is full, the nearest school with available places.
3. What if my child doesn’t get a place at any of our preferred schools?
The majority of children get a place at one of the schools they applied for. But if you’re not happy with the offer made and want to look at an alternative please contact Kirklees Pupil Admissions (details below) for details of schools with vacancies.
4. Can I appeal?
You have the right of appeal to an independent appeal panel for any school(s) where a place has been refused. You can appeal online or request for appeal papers to be sent out.
Details of how to appeal can be found on our website. The way you appeal isn’t the same for all schools so it’s really important that you check the information on our website first to find out what you need to do. All appeals dealt with by us need to be with us by Wednesday 29 March 2017 to ensure they are heard on or before 15 June 2017.
5. Do I need to accept my place if I am happy with it?
No. If you’re happy with the offer then you don’t need to do anything. The head teacher will contact you about arrangements, including your child’s start date.
