Looking for Easter activities?

From egg hunts to craft sessions there is plenty to keep your little bunnies hopping this Easter at Kirklees Museums. 

Egg Hunting at Oakwell

Families can visit Oakwell Hall and Country Park over the Easter weekend  Saturday 15 April – Monday 17 April,  from 12 noon to 5pm for a Easter Egg hunt around the walled garden.  To take part pick up a competition form from the visitor centre (50p) and return it once you’ve found all the clues.  Correct entries win a mini egg and a 2 for 1 voucher for entry into Oakwell Hall. 

Things to do at Bagshaw

There are also opportunities to get creative at Bagshaw Museum.

On Sunday 9 April,  anyone can get involved with the BBC Get Creative Weekend and make their own wind chimes.  The ideas is to scavenge raw materials in the park and bring them to the museum to make a musical masterpiece.

Then, on Easter Saturday 15 April,  from 12pm until 4pm there will be a colourful Easter egg trail around the museum and grounds with the chance to win a chocolate prize.  Both activities are free.

Easter activities at Tolson

Between Saturday 8 April and Sunday 23 April Tolson Museum is inviting families to their free Easter Egg hunt around the museum. Participants who solve the puzzle will win a small chocolate prize from 12noon-5pm.

Tolson Museum is also hosting  Fair and Funky family SCRAPtastic sessions on Thursday 13 April from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm.  The sessions have an Easter theme and cost £3.50 per child.

Have fun at Huddersfield Art Gallery

Huddersfield Art gallery is also hosting a Family Art Day on Thursday 13 April from 1pm – 3pm. They are encouraging people to drop in and be creative. The sessions are £1 per child, and there is no need to book.

Opening hours over the Easter holidays

Even when an activity isn’t taking place,  Museums are a fun place to visit during the holidays,  the museums will be open over the Easter holidays as follows:

Oakwell Hall

Oakwell Hall  and Visitor Centre

Open Easter Saturday (15 April), Easter Sunday (16 April) and Easter Monday (17 April) from 12noon – 5pm.

Closed Good Friday (14 April).

During the rest of the holidays (10 – 21 April) the Hall and visitor centre will be open Tuesday to Thursday 11am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 12noon to 5pm. The visitor centre is also open Friday 11am to 5pm.

Oakwell Countryside Centre

Open Easter Saturday (15 April) and Easter Sunday (16 April) from 11am – 3pm.

Closed Good Friday (14 April) and Easter Monday (17 April).

The countryside centre will also be open 11am to 3pm on the weekends of 8 and 9 April and 22 and 23 April.

Bagshaw Museum

Open Easter Saturday (15 April),  Easter Sunday (16 April) and Easter Monday (17 April)  12noon – 5pm.

Closed Good Friday (14 April).

During the rest of the holidays (10 – 21 April)  Bagshaw will also be open from Tuesday to Friday 11am to 5pm; and on Saturday and Sunday 12noon to 5pm.

Tolson Museum

open Good Friday (14 April) , Easter Saturday (15 April) and Easter Sun (16 April) 12noon – 5pm.

Closed Easter Monday (17 April).

During the rest of the holidays (10 – 21 April), Tolson museum will open Tuesday to Friday 11am to 5pm; Saturday and Sunday 12noon to 5pm.

Huddersfield Art Gallery

Open Easter Saturday 10am – 4pm.

Closed Good Friday (14 April), Easter Sunday (16 April) and Easter Monday (17 April).

During the rest of the holidays (10 – 21 April) the Art Gallery will also be open on Monday to Friday 10am – 5pm, and Saturday 10am – 4pm.

Victoria Tower, Castle Hill

8 April to 23 April (open every day) 12noon to 4.30pm

Admission costs: £1.90 for adults, 55p for children and £3.75 for families (2 adults and 2 children). Free for Kirklees Passport holders.
