Armed Forces Week 2017 in Kirkees
Monday 19 June marks the start of National Armed Forces Week, and as in previous years Kirklees will be raising the Armed Forces flag above all 4 Town Halls to mark the occasion.
Cllr Christine Iredale, The Mayor will be attending a ceremony on Huddersfield Piazza once again, joining people up and down the UK who will be showing their support to the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, including serving troops, Service families, veterans and cadets.
Who will be joining Cllr Iredale?
This year the Mayor will be joined by Andy Reid and Glen Hughes who are visiting Kirklees during their Warrior Challenge in memory of 6 soldiers killed in Afghanistan in 2012 – 3 of whom were from Kirklees. The Mayor, who knows one of the families personally, said:
“It is a real honour to welcome Andy and Glen to Kirklees and to lend our support to the challenge they are undertaking in remembrance of some of our local heroes. It’s important 5 years on that we don’t forget their service on behalf of us all, and honour them with great pride.”
The raising of the flag will be observed by the Deputy Mayor , Cllr Gwen Lowe, in Batley at a brief ceremony outside the Town Hall.
