Girl Guides raise funds at Oakwell Hall
Girl Guides have taken over the Countryside Centre in Oakwell Hall Country Park, to help raise funds for an expedition to South Africa next year.
What’s the fundraising in aid of?
The guides, who are from South Yorkshire, are planning to travel to a village in Lesotho, where they will work with the local community to improve their standard of living. The charity, ‘Africa’s gift’ is supporting the girls’ trip.
When are they fundraising, and how?
To raise the money for their trip, the guides are serving refreshments on Saturdays and Sunday, 11am to 3pm in the Countryside Centre at the bottom entrance to the country park, Birstall.
Assistant Heritage Manager:
Jennie Hawes, Assistant Heritage Manager at Oakwell Hall, is one of the leaders of the girl guide unit involved. She commented:
“People from our area have undertaken various projects in the village of Malealea over the years and the guides are excited to go to continue changing these people’s lives for the better. Every penny helps towards our goal but we are also very happy to be providing a service to the visitors to Oakwell Hall Country Park.”
Contribute towards their trip:
The fund-raising refreshments will be available from the Countryside Centre every weekend until the end of September at least.
