Heritage Open Days in Kirklees 2017

Heritage Open Days aim to celebrate England’s history and culture, giving the public the opportunity to visit some hidden places, and enjoy new experiences, free of charge.

Oakwell Hall

Our own Oakwell Hall in Birstall is one of the places taking part.  We will be waiving the normal admission charges over the weekend so visitors can explore the Elizabethan manor house and its contents.

On Sunday 10 September 2017, the Friends of Oakwell will be encouraging visitors to have a go at traditional crafts like quill pen writing and trollen wheels, and to find out more about getting involved in the Friends group.

The Hall will be open both days, from 12noon to 4pm.

Loads of other events are taking place too…

  • Readers who see that there are 57 free events in Kirklees over the coming Heritage Open Days weekend (7-10 September) may wonder where they can find the other 56! The full 28-page brochure can be found at http://www.discoverhuddersfield.com/heritage-open-days

    • Hi David,

There are links to the brochure in the story (both the image of the brochure and the link below take you to it. However I’ve updated the article to make it clearer.

      Hope that is OK

      Thanks

      • Thanks Susie

The headline remains an Oakwell Hall one, and the wider link to ‘loads of other local events’ was not present when I opened the e-mail yesterday.

Still looking forward to the partnership ethos of the ‘new Council’.

        Best wishes, David.

      • Hi David,

I’ve updated the title to reflect the wide offer.

        Kind regards

  • The image of ‘Heritage Open Days in Kirklees’ has been stolen from the Kirklees Heritage Open Days Committee published brochure with no credit, acknowledgement or link. The unpaid work of volunteers has been lifted without thought of the words ‘Kirklees Together’. There are 56 other events that deserve attention.

    • Hi Christopher,

Thanks for your comment, the image of the brochure and the link below will both take you to the full brochure. As the brochure gives lots of info it wouldn’t make sense for us to replicate this in our article, so we’ve just referred initially to our own event, I’ve made a few changes to the story so everyone should be able to follow the link to see your volunteers hard work and the great range of events on offer across Kirklees,

      Thanks

      Susie

      • It would be more accurate, inviting and inclusive if the header was ‘Heritage Open Days 2017 in Kirklees’ rather than ‘Heritage Open Weekend At Oakwell Hall 2017’ Your (the council’s events) also include Huddersfield Library & Art Gallery, Tolson & Ravensknowle

  • Nice try Susie but it is ‘Days’ (not ‘Weekend’) – the festival runs over 4 days.
