Oakwell strikes gold again

Oakwell Hall and Country Park in Birstall has been awarded gold in this year’s ‘Yorkshire in Bloom’.

Congrats to Oakwell

The gold in ‘Yorkshire in Bloom’s award is the sixth gold won by the 110-acre country park, which keeps the Grade I listed Oakwell Hall, an Elizabethan manor house built in 1583 in the centre of its grounds.

Judges commended the enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff and the support they receive from volunteers who carry out thousands of hours of work and the Friends group whose members assist at events and raise money for the site.

What do our councillors think?

Cllr Graham Turner, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services said:

“We are delighted to have achieved Gold again. It reflects the tremendous efforts made by everyone involved. We are particularly pleased that judges have acknowledged the input by the volunteers who contributed over 5000 hours of work in the last year. Their contribution was vital to us achieving  the high standards required for a gold award.”
