Free family events at our libraries

There’s something for everyone to enjoy at our libraries this autumn, from animation workshops to Harry Potter illustration masterclasses.
Harry Potter magic
We have an exciting new exhibition coming to Huddersfield Library this October, Harry Potter : A history of magic. The official exhibition is in partnership with the British Library, it launches on Friday 20 October at 12pm and will be in Huddersfield until 23 December to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone.
Illustrating Harry Potter
Friday 17th November 9-8:30pm
Get an insight into how magical tales like Harry Potter are illustrated. This October, come to a live screening of artists Jim Kay and Olivia Lomenech Gill to see how they craft amazing pieces of illustration for the Harry Potter series, in two very different and unique ways.
A taste of what’s going on
SCRAPtastic family workshops
Thursday 26th October 11-1am and 2-4pm
Join fairandfunky at Huddersfield Art Gallery to create some magical crafts using recycled materials. Children can create Halloween plant pot heads, bat pen pot holders, owl mobiles and pumpkin masks for only £3.50 per child.
Magical raspberry jam
Saturday 21st October 12-3pm
Have you ever wanted to learn how to create and code your own magical devices? The Department of Muggle Technology can teach you how to do just that. Your own equipment isn’t necessary as some can be provided but if you have your own equipment feel free to bring it along!
Cardboard creature workshops

You can draw, make and animate your very own cardboard creature sculpture at these fun cardboard creature workshops. Artist Fabric Lenny will be there to help you along the way and you can let your imagination run wild.
