Events for October half term

Stuck for things to do in October half term? There are loads of great events going on in Kirklees that you can get involved in. Here’s a taste of some of the things on offer and you can find lots more on Creative Kirklees.

Haunted Halloween Disco

  • Wednesday 25 October – 1pm -4pm at Standedge Tunnel in Marsden

For those that dare, Standedge Tunnel will be hosting a Spooktacular Halloween Haunted Disco for children on . The huge, Victorian Standedge Warehouse, part of the Canal & River Trust charity, will host the disco in its atmospheric Thomas Bourne Room and for the £5 entry fee, there will also be face-painting and Halloween-themed treats.

Children are encouraged to wear fancy dress Halloween costumes and there will be a prize for the best dressed children in two categories 0-5 years old and 6-11 years old.

Holmfirth General Market

  • Thursday 26 October 2017 – 8:00am – 4:00pm
  • Saturday 28 October 2017 – 8:00am – 4:00pm

And the third Sunday of every month.

Holmfirth town centre is a true shopper’s paradise filled with individually owned shops and cafes. This monthly market is located in the market hall and is a real complement to the shops in this picturesque village. The market offers jams, chutneys, pies and quiches, Hungarian food and household goods.

All Hallows’ Eve

  • Various days and dates at Oakwell Hall Country Park

Take part in the Spooky Halloween Quiz around the hall whilst discovering the story of Oakwell’s very own ghost… the legend of William Batt.

Terrifically Terrifying Craft Workshops

  • Tuesday October 24th – 11am-1pm at Bagshaw Museum

Dare you get creative with our chilling children’s crafts? Make your own skeletons, spiders and other things that go bump in the night. Only £2 per session and all ages are welcome. No booking required.

Stick Man & Room on the Broom (family concert)

  • Tuesday 24th October – 6pm at Huddersfield Town Hall

Join us this October half-term for the screening of two animated tales from the creators of The Gruffalo with René Aubry’s evocative scores performed by the Orchestra. This early evening concert begins with the first live UK performance of Stick Man, a story of friendship and adventure.

Craft and create Huddersfield School of Magic

  • Monday 23rd October 2pm-4pm
  • Wednesday 25th October 10am-12pm at Huddersfield Library

What will your chamber look like? Will you create a space for the magical creatures? Or will you design a potions classroom? Where will all the broomsticks be kept? All of the rooms will be magically combined to build a Huddersfield School of magic

SCRAPtastic Family Workshops

  • Thursday 26th October 11-1am and 2-4pm at Huddersfield Library

Join fairandfunky at Huddersfield Art Gallery to create some magical crafts using recycled materials. Children can create Halloween plant pot heads, bat pen pot holders, owl mobiles and pumpkin masks for only £3.50 per child.

Bat Hunt! Spooky Family Story Walk

  • Wednesday 25th October at Wilton Park in Batley

Explore the local area and hunt for bats with our special detectors that capture bat sounds, the walk will finish with a spine-chilling story outdoors.
