Vote for a new play area at Oakwell Hall

Friends of Oakwell Hall are encouraging local people and visitors to vote for Adventurous Oakwell’s Landscape Adventure in the Aviva Community Fund.

What is the Aviva Community fund?

The Aviva Community fund finances over 500 projects across four different fund levels and four categories, giving awards to communities throughout the UK.

What would winning this bid mean for Oakwell?

If the friends of group are successful,  the plan would be to create a new play area in Oakwell Hall Country Park. The new play area would use natural materials that encourage all the family to climb, jump, balance and explore in and amongst hills, mounds, paths, valleys and tunnels.  It would complement the existing play areas in the park and would be free to use.

Casting votes

People can vote by registering on the Aviva website, they get 10 votes to cast on whichever projects they support. If the proposal  receives enough votes, the group will receive a grant of £10,000, then the council would work with the local community to get their thoughts and ideas for the final design.

What have our councillors said?

Cllr Graham Turner Cabinet Member for Resources said:

“I wish the friends group every success with this bid, if we win it will not only help us to provide a new fun way to keep fit and active in the park,  but also allow us to try out some of our ideas for adventurous play areas in line with the current draft play strategy.”
