Christmas Celebrations: Events in Kirklees This Festive Period


Christmas is coming and events are taking place all over Kirklees to celebrate the festive fun!

If you missed Huddersfield, Honley or Cleckheaton’s lights being switched on – don’t worry – there’s still plenty of Christmas Lights to be switched on around the area!

If that isn’t enough to satisfy your Christmas needs, there’s a variety of alternative events happening, from cosy tipis to Christmas carols and a whole lot more…

Huddersfield Winter Festival Christmas Fair

St George’s Square – 17 November to New Years Day

The Danish concept of Hygge Tipi has arrived in Huddersfield with fire-warmed tents in St George’s Square where you can feel warm and cosy and enjoy a range of drinks, from coffee to real ales and mulled wine. There will also be other attractions in St George’s Square over the period, including a Christmas food and drink market from December 1 to December 3. The tent is open Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 9pm from Friday 17 November to New Year’s Day.Hygge Tipi 1

Cliffe House Christmas Fair

Shepley – Saturday 25 November 2017 – 11:00am – 5:00pm

Showcasing a wide array of wonderful gifts, Christmas goods and cards, perfect for all your shopping needs. Try our delicious festive food served between 12 noon and 5pm and treat yourself to a nice warming mulled wine with a mince pie, available to purchase throughout the day. Santa will be at Cliffe House from 11am and there’s entertainment and merriment aplenty, with Christmas themed crafts and fun for children of all ages. Free entry.

Oakwell Hall Christmas Craft Weekend

Oakwell Hall – Saturday 2 & Sunday 3 December – 11:00am – 4:00pm

Oakwell Hall is hosting a Christmas Craft Weekend, with a special guest appearance from the man in red. The Hall and Barn at the top of Nova Lane will be bursting with Christmas music, food and crafts stalls full of tempting gift ideas. There will be free entry to the Hall and Barn over the weekend, however there will be a small charge to see Santa.

Christmas Music & Carols In Greenhead Park Conservatory

Greenhead Park – Saturday 2 December 2017 – 3:30pm – 5:00pm

Join Gledholt Male Voice Choir and the Friends of Greenhead Park for a free concert of Christmas music and carols in the attractive surroundings of the Greenhead Park Conservatory. Mince pies & mulled wine will be on sale before the concert to raise funds for the Friends of Greenhead Park and there will be a collection at the end in aid of the Choir.

Crow About Christmas – Christmas Celebration in Crow Nest Park

Crow Nest Park – Sunday 10 December 2017 – 12:00pm – 4:00pm

A celebration of Christmas for families at Crow Nest Park in the Adventure Playground with Santa’s Grotto, live music by Musica Kirklees, Dewsbury Handbell Ringers, Carols, Mulled wine and mince pies, Fire Pit and Craft Stalls, refreshments. The Schools Decorated Tree Competition will be judged by Paula Sherriff MP. Free admission apart from Santa’s Grotto (£3).

Christmas Comes To Bagshaw Museum

Bagshaw Museum – Sunday 10th December 12noon – 4pm

An afternoon of traditional festive fun for all the family at Bagshaw Museum. Follow the Christmas trail, make Christmas tree decorations or a special Christmas card and decorate a tasty treat too. £2 per session. All ages welcome. No booking is required to participate.

Santa & Entertainment At Castle Hill

Castle Hill – Saturday 16 & Sunday 17 December

Santa will be visiting Victoria Tower on Castle Hill on 16 and 17 December between 11 am and 3 pm. Come and meet him before he flies around the world bringing peace, joy and goodwill to all! The ever popular Yule tree will also be on show and in full decoration for this special time of year which is also the Winter Solstice, when it is time to celebrate and look forward to the coming year!

Carols In The Garden

Tolson Museum – Sunday 17 December – 2pm

The Friends of Tolson Museum are holding ‘Carols in the Garden’, promising to be an afternoon of warm Christmas cheer. The event, in the Heritage Memorial Garden behind the museum, will include mince pies and mulled wine. Entry is free.

Christmas at Almondbury Library

Almondbury – Wednesday 6 December 7.30pm

An evening of festive poetry, music, and refreshments. A brass band quartet will play a selection of Christmas tunes on the evening.

Birstall Friends Christmas Social

Birstall – Wednesday 20 December 6:30 – 8:30pm

An evening of festive fun to put you in the Christmas spirit. Expect a yuletide quiz and raffle, as well as seasonal refreshments. Donations welcome.

Father Christmas Visits Lindley

Lindley – Tuesday 5 December 6:15 – 7:30pm

Father Christmas is taking some time out of his busy schedule to give out gifts to all the good girls and boys of Lindley! Drop him a letter in to the library before 5 of December and Father Christmas’s reply will be ready to collect on the night – just include the child’s name and what they hope to get for Christmas.

Mirfield – Sunday 24 December 4 – 6pm

Celebrate Christmas in Mirfield with carols around the tree and Christmas hospitality.
