New council homes could be built in Golcar
Our Cabinet has agreed to the building of 8 new council houses in Golcar, at their meeting on 23 January 2018.
Where could the new houses be built?
The new houses will be built on land owned by the council at Sycamore Avenue and Leymoor Avenue with each house having two bedrooms.
The homes once completed would be available to rent by families with young children, who currently struggle to find appropriate housing in the Golcar area.
Who is building the new homes?
Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing(KNH) will manage delivery of the project with contractors GS Kelsey, who will carry out the design and build of the new homes in a traditional style, offering training and mentoring opportunities and using local suppliers and subcontractors wherever possible.
Cllr Cathy Scott, cabinet member responsible for housing said:
“I am supportive of the proposal to build much needed council homes for families in need of an affordable home for rent. These new homes will help to meet housing need in this area of Kirklees.”
