The Great Get Together returns

The Great Get Together takes place this month (22-24 June) which is inspired by Jo Cox who was killed on 16 June 2016. Jo’s family and friends came up with the initiative and more than one hundred organisations are now supporting the cause.

What is it all about?

The weekend aims to bring together communities to celebrate all that unites them. Whether it is a street party, friends gathering at the local park or a back garden BBQ there will be events of all sizes going on throughout the country. Even if you just want to visit an elderly neighbour or introduce yourselves to a new family that has just moved on to the street, the weekend is a great opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and lean what you have on common with others in your community. You will be surprised how similar we all are.

Jo’s Legacy

Jo believed that people have more in common that which divides them and the celebrations take part on the weekend that would have been Jo’s 44th Birthday. After her death in 2016 the Prime Minister said that we have an opportunity to move forward and “bring this country together like never before”. People will take part in the events for many reasons, to get involved please go to The Great Together’s Website.
