Kirklees Open for Opportunity as Leaders Heads to Investment Conference

Senior council leaders and local business people visited London to showcase our area to property investors as part of the Leeds City Region collaborative working at MIPIM UK.

Who went to the conference?

We visited along with over 3,000 investors and financial institutions, exhibitors and delegates, the our group will demonstrate how Kirklees is at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse and ideally located for investors.

Why did we go?

Investment into Kirklees is currently at a high level with significant programmes underpinning the area’s attractiveness for both local and inward investment including £195 million public sector commitment in Kirklees towns and major infrastructure. With an annual economy worth more than £7 billion and access to over seven million people within a one hour drive, Kirklees is aiming to demonstrate that it is really the Place to Make It.

What do our officers and leaders think?

Representing Kirklees is Karl Battersby, Strategic Director Economy and Infrastructure:

“Kirklees has some significant major employers and partners, providing a rich talent base and infrastructure for investors to benefit from.

We are overseeing one of the biggest investment programmes in our history including £150m into our transport network, £45m into our town centres and working with developers and landowners with The Big Build to realise 10,000 homes by 2023.

It’s right that we showcase our vibrant, diverse and talented region as a connected part of the Northern Powerhouse.”

Key sites and land proposed

Key land, buildings and sites were showcased which include proposed developments by a number of key partners including ourselves. These include Trinity West a major mixed use development comprising retail, office and residential floor space, and St George’s Quarter located within Conservation Area beside Huddersfield rail station.
