Christmas Light Switch Ons in Kirklees

Christmas window displays are appearing in towns and the Christmas TV adverts have started too, so it’s time for the Christmas lights to go on across Kirklees. This year, all of the switch on events are being run by community groups or businesses so please head along to support your nearest event.

Huddersfield’s Festive Lights Switch On

Saturday 17 November 12 noon onwards, Piazza Shopping Centre

A family-friendly event, this year sees a fun-packed afternoon at The Piazza Centre where visitors can meet Father Christmas, watch Teen Star UK Dance Champions, Scandalous perform and watch X-Factor and Celebrity Big Brother finalist Amelia Lilly perform ahead of the official countdown.

The Food and Drink Winter Market will be also be running throughout the day from 10.00am. So enjoy a festive day out with your family.

Honley Village Centre, Huddersfield

Saturday 17 November, 3-7pm

Join in the fun and festive foodie events at Honley with live entertainment, fairground rides, and food stalls in Honley Park. Kids can meet Father Christmas in his magical grotto all that. Organised by Honley Business Association, the event is a great way to get your festive season off to a start.

Linthwaite Clough School, Linthwaite

Sunday 18 November, 1pm-4.30pm

Get in the festive mood with Linthwaite’s Big Switch On at Linthwaite Clough School. With seasonal food – such as mulled wine and mince pies, crafts and stalls and of course Father Christmas’ grotto, there will be a great community feel ahead of the switch on at 5pm.

Market Square, Holmfirth

Saturday 24th November, 4pm-6pm

Holm(firth) is where the heart is, especially so on Saturday 24 November where a special seasonal event will be held in Market Square. Expect lantern parades, brass bands, carols and lots of entertainment for more information check out the website.

Green Park, Heckmondwike

Saturday 24th November, 4pm

Welcome to HeckmondLIGHT – A unique winter festival of light will mark the long history of the town’s illuminations dating back to 1885. Green Park will be lit up with installations, funfairs and a street market.

Birstall Town Centre

Tuesday 27th November, 3-7pm

Birstall beckons, with its festive Dickensian themed Christmas Lights switch on event. Starting at 3pm, there will be dancers, festive stalls, fairground rides and the big man’s Grotto.

Batley Town Centre

Saturday 1st December, 6pm

Featuring Santa’s grotto (from 3pm) market stalls and loads of great acts on stage from the local area, this years switch on promises to be a great one. Batley born and bred Mayor Gwen Lowe will be in attendance to turn on the lights on which promises to be a magical evening.

Dewsbury Town Centre

Saturday 1st December, 1.30-4.30pm

A Christmas lights switch on welcomes residents and visitors to Dewsbury town centre to participate in an event to remember on Saturday 1st December.

The event, which has been funded by Arts Council, England is set to bring the town to life with performances and festive offers as part of a ‘Time to Shine’ retail initiative. Creative Scene, who has delivered previous have worked with Dewsbury Chamber of Trade and Friends of Dewbury Park Mansion.

Mirfield Town Centre

Saturday 1st December, 12-8pm

The finishing touches are being put to one of Mirfield’s highlights of the year. MyMirfield in conjunction with the town council is planning a full day of fun and festive treats including; festive shops, Christmas Window displays, Christmas Tree Festival and much more including a Mulled Wine and Ale Bar, all topped off with a special visit from Father Christmas.

Marsden Mechanics Hall, Peel Street, Marsden

Saturday 1st December, times to be confirmed

With events taking place across the village, visitors and the community can gather at Mechanics Hall for the official lights switch on.

Birkenshaw Town Centre

Saturday 1st December, 2-5pm, Birkenshaw Community Hall, Scout HQ & St Paul’s Church 

Head to Birkenshaw’s Christmas Fayre, featuring live music and choirs, stalls, and of course the big switch on at 4.30pm.
