12 Days of Safer Christmas in Kirklees
Safer Kirklees is issuing its 12 days of a Safer Christmas this week. The twelve seasonally themed tips are aimed at helping residents to keep safe during the festive period across the borough.
Cllr Naheed Mather, Cabinet Member for Communities and Environment, Kirklees Council said:
“While this time of year is a period where friends and families are celebrating together, it is important take care of people and property too.
We can often be less vigilant during these busy times, so we would like our residents and communities to be mindful of small things they could do to help themselves and others.”
Talking about the busy festive night economy, she added:
“Together with our partners including Pubwatch, West Yorkshire Police, Kirklees Council Licensing team, Street Angels and more, we’re here to provide a helping hand where needed.”
On Friday 14 December, the Safer Kirklees partnership was active within Huddersfield town centre. They signposted people to additional support, provided advice on safe transport home and made sure that everyone enjoyed their evenings.
Together with West Yorkshire Police, the Council’s Licensing Team spoke to taxi drivers and operators as well as visiting shops and licensed establishments to ensure people are protected from illegal operators.
Cllr Mather summarised:
“This is all about making sure our residents and visitors have a safe and fun time this Christmas.”
The 12 Days of Safer Christmas tips include advice on:
- Safer transport
- Drinking safely
- Looking after valuables
- Helping those in need
- Managing money
