Safer Kirklees – Dewsbury’s Day of Action
Partners from across Kirklees joined forces in Dewsbury as part of a Safer Kirklees Day of Action initiative. The taskforce undertook a number of actions including patrols of the town centre to tackle anti-social behaviour and engaging with local businesses and traders.
Who was part of the task force?
Representatives from Safer Kirklees, West Yorkshire Police, CHART, Housing Solutions, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Streetscene, CCTV and Community and Environmental Support Officers were also promoting important messages about reporting crime, drink-driving and keeping safe. The Day of Action follows a similar event held in Huddersfield last month.
What else happened?
West Yorkshire Police and Housing Solutions also worked with rough sleepers to signpost them to additional support services.
Cllr Naheed Mather, Cabinet Member for Communities and Environment said:
“We have developed strong partnerships across our towns and communities. This Day of Action in Dewsbury demonstrates our vision of closely working together to support our residents and businesses.
It is really important that we highlight ways of not only keeping safe, but also how to support others in our community. We encourage people to report any anti-social behaviour and activity.
Safer Kirklees is also delivering a ‘Twelve Days of Safer Christmas’ campaign providing residents with useful tips to keep safe during the festive period such as responsible drinking, managing finances and protecting property. “
Cllr Mather added:
“The festive period is a time to celebrate with family and friends. Our Twelve Days of Christmas tips are designed to make people consider their behaviour too.”
