Shabir Pandor, leader of the council,  is heading to the world’s largest real estate exhibition to show thousands of top international investors the exciting wealth of opportunities for development in the borough.

What is MIPIM?

Held in Cannes from 12 – 15 March, MIPIM is the world’s largest real estate exhibition, conference and networking event with more than 26,000 participants and 5,000 investors from across the world.

What will be presented at the exhibition?

Councillor Pandor and Director for Economy and Skills, Angela Blake, are attending to showcase the 18 best development opportunities in the borough, identified in the recently-commissioned Invest in Kirklees brochure.

What is the Invest in Kirklees project?

Our Invest in Kirklees project is an ambitious vision to boost the local economy through promoting major investment opportunities.

These key sites, including the Greater Waterfront Quarter in Huddersfield and Dewsbury Riverside have all been identified by us as having huge potential to support its plans for significant business and housing growth.

What are the plans for the sites?

SKA Developments have undertaken extensive projects around Huddersfield, and the Greater Waterfront Quarter promises to transform the site into a bustling community, including residential, student accommodation, retail and business.

The proposed Dewsbury Riverside vision is a bold plan that delivers regeneration by focusing the town on the canal and riverside with improved interconnectivity through infrastructure improvements and the possibility to build 4000 new homes.

We are seeking investors to develop at these sites and will use MIPIM 2019 as a platform to do this.

What else will be presented at MIPIM 2019?

Also on show at MIPIM 2019 will be Kirklees’ innovative proposals for a cutting-edge £16 million Huddersfield Town Centre heat network. This would distribute heat and electricity from energy generation to premises across the town centre – cutting energy costs by 10-15 per cent, reducing carbon emissions, increasing energy security and creating new jobs.

Cllr Pandor said:

“We are an ambitious council with huge plans for Kirklees as was shown in our recent budget which will help our local economy thrive. MIPIM is the place to showcase our ambition by highlighting the £45million we’re investing in our town centres alongside £150million in transport improvements.
To achieve this we’ve identified key sites with the biggest potential and are showcasing them to investors who will no doubt see the wealth of opportunities we have for a range of different developments. MIPIM is the place to do this. It is the biggest event of its kind and puts us in front of investors who will enable us to bring the business, jobs and homes we need so Kirklees will become the place we know it can be.”
