Ward Summer Walkabout Cleanup

Our Greenspace Action Team have been out and about on Summer Ward Walkabouts cleaning up and creating a clean and green environment across the district.

Where has work been completed?

The team have been busy identifying Wards to complete works, with a different area being covered each week. This week the team have worked fantastically hard and managed to complete work across four of our Wards; Holme Valley, Colne Valley, Batley and Huddersfield.

Did the team issue any fines?

Eleven fixed penalty notices were issued including six for littering from a motor vehicle, two for face-to-face littering, and three for fly tipping.

What work did the team complete?

The team completed some brilliant work including removing the fly tipping of rubbish and furniture at Maxwell Avenue and West View, Batley. Enforcement Officers issued notices to landlords relating to the problem of items being dumped to ensure the alley is kept clear.

The team also conducted trimming of trees and overgrown hedges as well as the clearing of leaves, rubble and debris across areas in Holmfirth, Skelmanthorpe and Clayton West.

Moss was removed from the pavement at Quarry Hill, Almondbury, which was becoming slippy and dangerous to walk on.

Councillor Naheed Mather, Cabinet Member for Greener Kirklees says:

“The team have done a fantastic job and have been thanked by local residents and councillors for their hard work. Some brilliant work was done by the team to clear the alley way between Maxwell Avenue and West View, Batley, which was full of waste. Some fly tipping in Holmfirth town centre was also promptly removed as well as cleaning the streets and paths in other areas – making them safe for the public.”

Other work also included the cleaning of road signs.

I have asked twice for the trees to be trimmed and lifted on Talbot ave , Edgerton, outside my elderly fathers house and his neighbours. They are causing a hazard to pedestrians and a couple of weeks ago one of the branches fell off and could have landed on a car or pedestrian. Very dangerous.

  • it is on nursery street and one parking area is end of cul de sac the other parking area going up to garages on nursery street turn first left there are parking bays on right never been cleaned by sweeper in that area for 2 years.
While in this parking bays look at flats across their is a grassed area you will see an old tyre and wooden table and 2 wooden chairs.
the other area is a BACK ROAD between GM STORES and POST OFFICE. it is very over grown and the people that live there throw there unwanted items there. some of the older houses are rented some when they leave there stuff is dumped there by land lord.
Where it is over grown there is a large tree in the centre of the green that is never been cut back for years there is a foot path there and it getting hard to use it with out been clothes court on black berry bushes. WF12 9DZ BREWERY LANE /NURSEY STREET WF12 1HP . is just off Thornton road BY GREEN GRASSED TRANGLE at bend at bottom of brewery lane.
