Inter Faith Week 2019: The round-up

Kirklees Inter Faith Week has grown every year and 2019 was the biggest yet. Working collaboratively with 30 partners and 20 schools the Cohesion Team brought together 2800 residents from a variety of backgrounds. Events took place across the whole of Kirklees in places of worship, schools, community centres, and outdoors. More places, people, groups and organisations took part this year than ever before, with many delivering new and innovative events.
The public response at the ‘Roses for Peace’ event:
“This is what we need in our world”, “thank you for your love shown”, “this has made my day”.
Al-Muminun Organisation said:
“I would like to congratulate the Kirklees Cohesion team for putting up an array of events for Inter Faith Week. Not only have I personally benefitted from them by attending but I feel the valuable lessons from different faiths have been so vital in ensuring we live in a diverse and inclusive Kirklees. So truly hats off to you all.”
A positive impact
Inter Faith Week in Kirklees has enabled people to come together, learn, have fun, enjoy good food, foster friendship and celebrate the selfless contribution of the communities. The week of events would not be possible without the hard work of volunteers and the enormous amount of goodwill from diverse faiths and communities groups who come together to make Kirklees a wonderful place to live, work, study and visit. The week has had an impact on those who have taken part but also far beyond that, with the positive messages shared through social media:
Ali Amla, Cohesion and Integration Manager, said:
“Interfaith week planning begins months in advance, it is a great example of working collaboratively with stakeholders and partners to organise a diverse week of events and activities. Interfaith week strengthens our bonds by bringing people together, creating the opportunity for positive interaction, finding our common ground, exploring our differences, challenging myths and fostering friendships.”
