Government COVID-19 grants now available for businesses in Kirklees

Funding is available to support local businesses to help deal with the impact of the COVID-19 virus.

What grants are available?

Grants of either £10,000 or £25,000 are now available for eligible businesses in Kirklees as part of a package of financial support announced by the Government to help mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 virus.

Is my business eligible?

All businesses in Kirklees with a rateable value of less than £15,000 and who are already in receipt of Small Business Rate Relief, Rural Rate Relief or tapered relief will be eligible for a £10,000 Small Business Grant. Businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors, with a rateable value of between £15,000 and £51,000, will be eligible for a £25,000 grant under the Governments Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant scheme.

Councillor Shabir Pandor, Leader of Kirklees Council, said:

“We know that many local businesses are relying on financial support from the Government to get through this unprecedented crisis and I hope that these grants will provide some relief. Over 1800 Kirklees businesses have applied on our website for a grant in the last 24hrs and we will ensure that payment is made as soon as possible.

In addition to this support from Government, I will be working with our Local Enterprise Partnership to encourage banks to play their role in helping and engaging with our businesses in these challenging times.”

How can I apply?

Eligible businesses will receive a letter from us this week with further details and are asked to complete an online form on our website to ensure they receive payment swiftly and securely in early April.

To complete the online form for your business or to see details of all the support available for businesses in Kirklees visit our website.

  • Hi Elise

How can I confirm that my application has been received? I have emailed this request previously but not had any response. Can you also confirm that all grants will be paid before the end of this month when many of us have bills and salaries to pay. I am aware that you are all busy, your standard response is helpful but doesn’t address the real questions which are adding stress at a very difficult time.

  • Hi Noel, Payments are being processed, we have received 7000+ applications that we need to process, 36 extra staff have been moved to this team to make sure you receive your payment as soon as possible. After the Council has processed your application and carried out any necessary checks, it then takes three working days for the BACS payment to reach your account. We know that the wait is very difficult but the team is working as quickly as they can. Thank you for your patience.^CP

  • Morning, Can you please let me know when we will receive any update regarding grant applications. As a business in Holmfirth with cafe we completed the application on 2nd April and have received no further communication. We do currently receive small business rate relief but the business has been closed since 22nd March and no income.

  • Hi We are a local business in Holmfirth wih a cafe and completed the application form 2nd April and we still haven’t heard anything. We closed the business on 22nd March and now have no income coming through – how do i find out if we have been successful. I’ve received no communication at all. The business rent is due shortly. Please help

  • Hi their Elise
I filled my grant form in for my 2 salons in Huddersfield on the 1st of April I then emailed the buisness rates people and also facebooked them with a message. Leeds city council were paying businesses their grant monies the week begging the 6th of April! It’s now 2 weeks ago and my wages were due to be paid today and we have had to defer them like many others, employing vulnerable staff isn’t helping either!
Please could you some how through social media let SMEs know where you are up to then we can let banks, staff, and suppliers know!
    Regards

  • Hi Richard, payments are being processed and our teams have been working over easter to ensure this. Please be mindful this takes a couple of days to land in your account via BACs transfer. Thank you for your patience. All the best ^CP

  • That’s great! ^CP

  • Thanks we have received our Grant today 14th April

  • Hi i filled my online form 2wks ago and still not heard anything just auto response emails.

  • Hi Elise have Kirklees paid any Grants yet ? My Exhibition Business has been particularly badly hit. We deal with exhibitions at Schools, Universities and Gallery’s and all our orders until august have been cancelled. We have NO Income and are reliant upon our savings to survive until the grant arrives .. Which we are most grateful for ..

  • Whilst I accept that the council is working hard to get these payments made, a little more feedback on your website would be helpful. For example, a daily update on the number of grants that have been issued would at least show that some progress.

For now, and like the the other comment made here, I have had no email, call, letter following my application made nearly 2 weeks ago.

  • Hi. Are we informed if we have been accepted or declined? Seems strange not to get confirmation or anything that’s all 🙂 thank you In advance
