Leading the fight in Kirklees

Kirklees Council Leader Shabir Pandor this week announced his reshaped Cabinet which will focus on tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
Cabinet Members at Kirklees Council now each have new priorities which focus on the issues that matter most during the coronavirus pandemic such as protecting lives, businesses and communities across the borough.
Several Cabinet Members will also work towards the council’s long-term strategy for the post-Coronavirus era.
Councillor Pandor’s responsibilities will be to lead the immediate response to the pandemic, leading the recovery strategy and Public Health.
Councillor Pandor said: “I will retain overall leadership of our response to the pandemic. Local governments across the country, including us in Kirklees, are working tirelessly in incredibly testing circumstances.
“We have never faced anything like this before but my promise to residents is that we will continue to do everything we can to keep people safe and keep the vital services we all rely on running.
“As the situation changes day by day, I will coordinate our response and work with partners to protect vital services and communities across Kirklees.
“We will beat the virus. And when we do, I will lead the recovery effort. Making sure the council plays its part in rebuilding public services, our inclusive economy and the quality of life for everyone in Kirklees.
“There’s nothing more important right now than our public health activity across Kirklees. Staying at home, protecting the NHS and saving lives is our number one priority. I will keep giving that message loud and clear and making sure everyone in Kirklees can get through this crisis.”
