ARMED FORCES WEEK BEGINS TODAY
The National Armed Forces Week begins today and the Armed Forces flag will be raised above our Town Halls at 10.30am to show our support.
Celebrating Armed Forces Day
Armed Forces Day (formerly Veterans’ Day) in the United Kingdom is an annual event celebrated in late June and provides the opportunity for people to show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community which includes serving troops, service families, veterans, and cadets.
This year Armed Forces Day will be celebrated on Saturday 27th June. In previous years members of the public, veterans, councillors, and Forces personnel have been invited to join the flag raising ceremonies. However due to the coronavirus pandemic public gatherings are not possible this year.

We are asking people to show their support by signing up to our Armed Forces Day Flickr group and sending us photos of you, your friends, family or colleagues saluting the Armed Forces. Showing support for the Armed Forces provides a much-valued morale boost for the troops and their families. You can also get involved by joining us on our social media pages with the hashtag #SaluteOurForces throughout the week where we will be keeping you up to date with tributes to the Armed Forces.
Mumtaz Hussain, Mayor of Kirklees said:
“It is important to recognise the contribution of the Armed Forces and even more so this year for their response to the coronavirus crisis. From building hospitals and driving ambulances, to assisting government departments and delivering medical equipment, the Armed Forces continue to serve the country during these unprecedented times.”
