School’s Out – check the free online offer!

We’ve teamed up with Kirklees Youth Alliance and a whole host of local organisations to keep children and young people busy during the school summer holidays.

What activities are on offer?

There’s an exciting range of free activities on offer, with something for all ages from four up to 18. The activities are online and a new video is being posted every day during the holidays so that children and young people are entertained, engaged and can learn fun new skills.

Who is the programme funded by?

The ‘School’s Out’ programme is funded by the council and co-ordinated by Kirklees Youth Alliance (KYA) in partnership with community groups. Activities include cooking, music, theatre, dance, sport and fitness.

Cllr Viv Kendrick, Cabinet member for Children, said:

“Our aim is to promote the wellbeing of all children and young people, especially as Covid-19 has made this such an incredibly tough year.

The holiday programme usually helps children who are eligible for free school meals, but these are difficult times for many families so we have made it accessible to all. Whilst we aren’t able to bring children together in actual buildings, I encourage everyone to check out the excellent online offer.”

Cllr Carole Pattison, Cabinet member for Learning, Aspiration and Communities, said:

“The focus is also on enjoyment and engagement, which can sometimes suffer during school holiday periods. Not only can children have fun by joining an activity, it will also help them return to school ready to learn and achieve.

We want children and young children to have the best possible start in life and we’re pleased to be working with KYA. We are supporting thousands of local families with these brilliant free activities.”
