Rules to follow

Visitors will be asked to provide contact details for the Test and Trace programme and also to wear a face covering inside library buildings as per government guidance.  Due to limited capacity, browsing will be limited to a maximum of 15 minutes per visit, and visitors may be asked to queue outside during busy periods.

Health and safety is key

Health and safety has been at the heart of preparations as we work hard to make sure visitors, staff and volunteers remain safe as further library services are re-introduced. Controlling the spread of the virus is critical and visitors will be reminded to stick to government guidelines.

Returning books

When visiting, please place books in the green waste bins marked with Kirklees Libraries stickers. Do not remove any items from the bin.

  • When will the Huddersfield library in town reopen?

    • Hello Cieldafford, Kirklees Libraries will be looking to extend their offer, but please bear with us as we make these small steps to recovering our service. Kind regards ^CP

    • When will be huddersfield library open?

      • Hi Mansoora, Kirklees Libraries will be looking to extend their offer and open more locations, but please bear with us as we make these small steps to recovering our service. Kind regards ^CP

  • Hello – Is there any possibility to return books on a Saturday please?

    • Hi Peter, we are reviewing our hours continuously and although there is no weekend opening at the moment, we will be looking at that again soon. Please note that there are no fines payable on books in all Kirklees libraries so you don’t need to worry about any payments for late return. Kind regards ^EMT

  • You have a perfectly good system through our online accounts to make reservations. Pre covid, one made a reservation for a book and when it was ready for pick up one went to the library to pick it up. What is wrong with this system now? Surely it is no more of a time intensive resource than ring and read. Only difference to me seems that the reader chooses what to read rather than you choosing what I read. Sorry, but ring and read does not work for me. I want to read what I choose not what you choose. It is hugely frustrating to browse the catalogue online, know the book I want is on the shelves, reserve it and yet I cannot get hold of it. Regards, Eric P.

    • Hi Eric, unfortunately, we do require you to use the ring and read system instead of ordering books online as we don’t currently have the facilities to transport books across our library services. Kind regards ^CP

  • Will the books themselves be sanitised (as far as they can be) between borrowings?

    • Hi Lola, all returns are quarantined for 72 hours before being handled by staff and returned to the shelves. The current scientific advice is that this effectively sanitises the books and makes them safe to go out again. Thank you ^EMT

  • Will there be toilet facilities available in the sites that are opening?

  • I have 3 reserved books now ready for collection at Dewsbury library. When will this library be opening so I can collect these please? Thank you.

    • Hi Pamela, Dewsbury Library currently offers a Ring and Read service. Please call 01484 414868 and our staff will be able to arrange a time for you to collect the books you have reserved. Kind regards ^CP

  • It is really unclear how to update our personal records online. My address is out of date, I cannot request or reserve items because I am out of privilege. So utterly frustrating. I have been trying to use this service ever since lockdown / shielding.

    • Hi Yvonne, please can you call 01484 414868 and our staff will be able to support you to update your details. Thanks^CP
