Additional financial support for businesses agreed

We are launching the Additional Restrictions Grant scheme in early December to provide further financial support for businesses affected by Covid-19 measures.

This is the final scheme in the package of Covid-19 related Government grants for businesses and aims to complement other grants by addressing any gaps in existing support.

Councillor Shabir Pandor, Leader of the Council said:

“I’m delighted we’re able to extend financial support to those businesses and charities that have been unable to claim other government Covid-19 grants.

The scheme will support non-business rate paying businesses and community organisations required to close as a result of COVID-19 restrictions, the retail, hospitality and leisure supply chains and the self-employed that have not had access to other Government support.

It will operate flexibly in response to the changing national picture in relation to COVID-19 restrictions.

Businesses can register their interest in the grant online now and will be contacted once the application form is available in early December.”

Kirklees received just under £8.8m from Government to fund the scheme. Local Authorities have the discretion to agree the detailed eligibility criteria and priority sectors.

Working in partnership with other West Yorkshire local authorities and Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, Kirklees created a common approach to the discretionary scheme’s criteria, which Cabinet members agreed at their meeting on 26 November.

Businesses will need to provide evidence of fixed business costs such as rent and business insurance to support their claim.

Grants will initially operate on the basis of monthly payments to mirror the other Government business grants, with the initial awards covering the period of 28 days from 5 November.

The full criteria will be published online. Further information about business grants can be found on our website.
