Moving tribute to former Mayor.

Today is the funeral of former Kirklees Mayor, Councillor David Wright who sadly passed away on 16 February.

As a mark of respect, our flags at the four town halls, Batley, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury and Huddersfield, will be flying at half-mast throughout the day.

Mr Wright, originally from York, moved to Deighton and, in 1980 and was elected as councillor to represent his local community. In 1992, he was elected Mayor of Kirklees and worked tirelessly raising funds for his chosen charity ‘Concern Mental Health.’

He worked in the NHS as an administrator.

Jacqui Gedman, Chief Executive said

“Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. Mr Wright achieved so much during his time as mayor and made an incredible impact on raising funds for mental health charities.”
