Celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day
Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day. One in five people in Kirklees has a disability and providing fully accessible online information for them is a vitally important part of what we do.
That’s why the Kirklees Council website is celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day by being recognised as one of the top 30 most accessible local authority sites in the UK.
Our ambition to provide inclusive online services to all is at the heart of this achievement. We’ve worked hard to make sure the website can be read by everybody in Kirklees, regardless of disability or any assistive technologies people may use.
This has never been more important than during the pandemic, when so many people have turned to online services for support. Our inclusive online services help people across Kirklees to live independently and have control over their lives.
During the pandemic we’ve also published a range of fully accessible support for businesses. Our business and economy information has helped to sustain the economy through this difficult time.
We’re proud of our achievement, but digital inclusion in Kirklees doesn’t stop there. Global Accessibility Awareness Day is about getting everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion. Let’s all help each other to remove barriers and unlock the potential of everybody in Kirklees.
