Start your New Year health kick with a free Health Check

Resident having a health check

In November, our Wellness Service successfully launched a new pilot scheme to deliver free Health Checks to over 40’s in certain areas of Kirklees.

During the first month of the pilot, the qualified team of Health Coaches saw almost 120 patients and identified potentially serious health issues in nearly 50 people.

Following these results, they referred or signposted individuals to their GP, Wellness Service or local mental health services.

A New Year, a new you

The Kirklees Wellness Service will continue to expand the pilot scheme into the new year. Offering tailored advice and support helping residents achieve their goals.

They continue to deliver the checks from local community venues including, community centres, mosques and churches, libraries and leisure centres making it easier to start your personal New Year health campaign.

Preventing serious ill health

Undertaking a health check can help spot;

  • The early signs of cardio-vascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • Strokes

A personalised plan is developed to prevent escalation through education, support and interventions.

Research has shown that people living in deprived areas of Kirklees, those that have mental ill health or are from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic community are at greater risk of poorer health outcomes.

Helping relieve pressures off our NHS

The scheme aims to encourage residents to actively engage and make positive steps to improve their health. Reducing the need for some to visit their local GP or hospital.
